AMY BLEIER LONG
print lover, design enthusiast, shower singer

My site is named mrkt (pronounced market) as a nod to my career as a market editor and my dream of having a shop of my own someday. When I left New York, I thought I'd be freelancing for the national magazines I'd come from and I wanted to have a way of staying in the game and on top of new products. As they do, things didn't quite work out that way long term. Now I'm the content editor for a regional magazine but I still want to have a place to share the things I find outside of my coverage area. The site and the blog I started were dormant for a while, but I'm bringing them back - posts will be spontaneous, not scheduled.

As content editor of The Good Life, Central New York Magazine, I:
-develop story and feature package concepts
-write stories of varying lengths
-develop and produce market stories that highlight locally owned businesses
-serve as art director on lifestyle, product, and interiors photo shoots
-hire freelance photographers
-influence the design and content direction of the magazine.
I love being able to tell the stories of the people and places that make CNY a vibrant place to live and work.

As an editor of niche publications, I work with clients who want to tell the story of their brand, organization, or region in a beautiful way. I help them develop a concept, propose content ideas and a cohesive way to organize the material, proofread and copy edit editorial content, and influence design direction. I'm the point person for the client and liaise with the ad sales, design, and production teams to ensure a high-quality finished product.

At the national magazines, the bulk of my work revolved around home decor products, accessories, furnishings, gifts and design, which are the areas I'm most passionate about. In the past, I have also written travel and relationship stories.

What else?

Because it often confuses people: My full, legal, and often misspelled last name is Bleier Long (Bleier: two Es, one I, rhymes with flier). It is not Long, or even Bieber Long, as I once received on a Fashion Week invitation that I cherish.
